Labour Unions to Announce Significant Development in Bill 27/LRB Lawsuit

EDMONTON, April 2 /CNW/ - Labour leaders representing unions pursuing a
lawsuit against the Alberta Labour Relations Board (LRB) regarding the
drafting of Bill 27 will be making an announcement about significant
developments in the case:

                       Tuesday, April 3
                       10:00 am
                       United Nurses of Alberta Offices,
                       No.900, 10611-98 Avenue

Alberta Federation of Labour President Gil McGowan, United Nurses of
Alberta President Heather Smith and Communications, Energy and Paperworkers
Union Administrative Vice-President Don Boucher will be present to comment on
the developments and offer their perspective on what it means for the labour
movement and the public.
The media availability is in response to a statement to be issued by the
LRB on Tuesday morning.
The unions' the lawsuit is scheduled to be heard by the Appeals Court
this week. The case was launched after revelations the LRB was actively
involved in drafting of Bill 27, which stripped health care workers of many
rights. Involvement in drafting legislation is perceived by many to be a
breach of the LRB's role, placing its objectivity in doubt.
