Konica Minolta Continues Its Commitment to Provide Environmentally-Sound
MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 15 /CNW/ - Konica Minolta Business Solutions
(Canada) Ltd. (Konica Minolta), a leading provider of advanced imaging and
networking technologies for the desktop to the print shop, today announced
they are the first manufacturer and distributor of multifunction devices
(MFPs) in North America to receive EcoLogo's newest office products
certification (CCD-035) -- based on EcoLogo's latest and very stringent
Konica Minolta is a worldwide technology leader with a global perspective
on protecting the environment. With over 30,000 employees in 40 countries,
Konica Minolta aims to combine sustainable development and profitable growth
by integrating environmental, economic, and social perspectives into business
"We're pleased to be the first manufacturer of MFPs to earn EcoLogo
certification and think it speaks well to Konica Minolta's commitment to our
environment", says Grant Hume, Executive Vice-President of Konica Minolta
Business Solutions (Canada) Ltd. "Not only does our office equipment provide
exceptional print quality and reliability -- our EcoLogo certification, and
resulting end-of-life recycling program, assure our customers we can help them
reduce their business carbon footprint while they continue to receive the
products, solutions, and services most suited to their needs," he adds.
Konica Minolta Business Solutions constantly strives to develop new ways
to reduce environmental impact, save energy, reduce waste, and promote
recycling. Recent developments include:
- Simitri(R) HD Toner, exclusive to Konica Minolta and used in all
bizhub(R) multifunctional products, has smaller and more uniform
particles that improve detail and definition while reducing toner
consumption by more than 30%.
- Fusing units that provide faster warm-up time and lower energy
consumption allowing applicable models to consume 30-40% less energy
as compared to previous-generation models.
- Sophisticated toner recycling system automatically collects,
recycles, and re-uses toner not fused to paper during the printing
process. This system increases efficiency while reducing operating
costs on Konica Minolta's B&W multifunctional peripherals.
- All Konica Minolta toner bottles are made of HDPE, or High Density
Polyethylene identified by the Society of Plastics Industry (SPI) as
one of the two types of plastic that can be recycled most
economically. Additionally, 25% of the plastic used in toner bottles
comes from recycled plastic and 100% of the recycled plastic used is
made from post-consumer waste.
- Based on Europe's Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive
(RoHS), which came into effect in 2006, Konica Minolta has eliminated
the following hazardous substances from all our MFPs and printers:
lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and two types of
polybromic fire retardants (PBB and BPDE).
"We are thrilled that Konica Minolta's office machines have met the
EcoLogo standards under the new office machine category. In being awarded
EcoLogo certification, Konica Minolta continues to have its long-time
commitment to environmentally-preferable products recognized by a credible,
third party," says Scot Case, Executive Director of the EcoLogo Program.
The following Konica Minolta bizhub MFPs have met or exceed the EcoLogo
standards: bizhub 200, bizhub 250, bizhub 350, bizhub 361, bizhub 421, bizhub
501, bizhub C203, bizhub C253, bizhub C353, bizhub C353P, bizhub C451, bizhub
