Kids in need score $99 for Birdies at Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic presented by Samsung

Samsung teams up with Gretzky to offer kids better quality of life

COLLINGWOOD, ON, June 25 /CNW/ - Samsung Electronics Canada Inc. is proud
to announce the launch of the Birdies for Kids program as part of its
presenting sponsorship of the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic, an official part of
the PGA Nationwide Tour.
Samsung will donate $99 - denoting the Great One's iconic number - to the
Wayne Gretzky Foundation for every celebrity birdie scored at the Ford Wayne
Gretzky Classic presented by Samsung. The Birdies for Kids program is part of
Samsung's Four Seasons of Hope, a corporate philanthropic program of
community-based charities.
"We're thrilled to be working with Samsung and being involved with its
ongoing commitment to help children, families and communities throughout North
America through Four Seasons of Hope," said Gretzky. "The money raised through
this initiative will help my foundation as we work to ensure that playing
hockey is accessible for kids across Canada."
Sports icons such as Gretzky, Darcy Tucker, Paul Coffey and Doug Gilmour,
as well as famed entertainers like Alan Thicke and Kevin Dillon, will strive
to maximize their birdie count during the six-day PGA tournament.
"Samsung's sponsorship of the Ford Wayne Gretzky Classic is but one
example of our commitment to charitable causes," said Benjamin Lee, President,
Samsung Electronics Canada. "Together we can put a smile on the faces of
children that are less advantaged and need a leg up to participate in Canada's
greatest sport."
At the tournament, Gretzky himself will be partnered with golf pro and
Brantford native David Hearn as he is pitted against former Edmonton Oilers
teammates Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and Marty McSorley.
"I'm thrilled that so many athletes, including my former teammates, have
chosen to participate in this tournament," said Gretzky. "At the end of the
day, we're just going to have a lot of fun, and hopefully our celebrity guests
can sink a few birdie putts and support this great cause."
Tournament play will begin June 26, with approximately 160 professional
golfers joining the star-studded field. For more information, as well as
