QUEEN'S PARK, March 25 /CNW/ - Demonstrating his weak judgment again
today, John Tory continued his 'down on Ontario' campaign, and relied on the
same old, tired, failed Mike Harris agenda. Rejecting Liberal investments in
job creation, infrastructure, healthcare, and education, Tory stated he wants
to just cut taxes, sit back, and do nothing.
When pressed to say what he would do other than cut taxes, Tory offered
nothing. In his ten minute statement, Tory failed to mention 'healthcare',
'education', or 'poverty' even once.
With today's budget, the McGuinty Liberal government is continuing to
actively invest in people and growing a stronger Ontario:
- We are investing in skills training, infrastructure, and innovation
to grow a stronger economy - Ontario now has 456,800 more jobs than
we did under the Conservatives, over 230,000 new jobs are projected
over the next three years;
- We have increased education investments by $3.2 billion since 2003 -
class sizes are getting smaller, test results have jumped higher, and
more students are graduating;
- Healthcare investments are up $11.1 billion since 2003 - wait times
are coming down and more Ontarians have access to doctors and nurses
The McGuinty Liberals have balanced the budget three years in a row - on
track for six consecutive balanced budgets - while increasing investments in
public services. We are cleaning up the Conservative government's approach
that left Ontario with a $5.6 billion deficit, closed hospitals and left
schools in a mess.
What our economy needs is for the Federal Conservative government to
become a true partner.
While John Tory has decided to stand up for the Conservatives, we'll keep
standing up for Ontario, our families and our workers. Ontarians can be
reassured that we won't do what Conservatives want us to do: hang families out
to dry by making cuts to schools, hospitals, and skills programs to pay for
unaffordable tax cuts.
