John Tory skips Goldhawk debate: afraid to debate his private school scheme

TORONTO, Sept. 28 /CNW/ - With at least a dozen of his candidates
questioning his judgment and his private school scheme, John Tory failed to
show up to his local televised debate on Rogers' Goldhawk Live last night,
despite confirming his attendance with the show.
Dale Goldhawk opened the show saying: "John Tory - the Progressive
Conservative Party candidate - is not here. We expected him, we still do. He
may come in progress."
    But he never showed up.
It's not like he was busy. For two days in a row John Tory's election
tour has ended with lunch.
What has he been doing? Why is he afraid to defend his questionable
private religious school scheme against Education Minister Kathleen Wynne?
"I am willing to debate John Tory any time, anywhere, and twice on
Sundays," said Wynne. "I'm disappointed he has chosen to hide instead of
tackling the issues that matter to voters in Don Valley West."
Wynne, who has been knocking on doors every day of the week, said she
hears daily from people about John Tory's scheme to rip $500 million out of
publicly funded schools for private religious schools.
"People in Don Valley West want to see more improvements to our publicly
funded schools, not a diversion of tax dollars to private religious schools,"
said Wynne. "I question the judgment of Mr. Tory who has decided to ignore the
voters of Don Valley West and not meet his commitments to local debates."
