TORONTO, Oct. 5 /CNW/ - As John NegaTory continues his down on Ontario
strategy, Statistics Canada shows job numbers in Ontario are up again - with
30,000 more jobs created in September. There are now almost 400,000 more jobs
in Ontario today than there were four years ago.
"We've worked together with labour and business and the result is 400,000
more Ontarians have jobs," said Deputy Premier George Smitherman. "More
Ontarians are working, and that means a better quality of life for Ontario
Smitherman noted that John Tory continues his down on Ontario tour, on a
day when the unemployment rate has dropped to 6.2%, which is down from 7% when
the Harris Tory party was in charge.
"I have never seen a man try to lead the province by running it down,"
said Smitherman. "I think leaders champion their province, work together to
bring new investments and create jobs. John NegaTory doesn't understand that.
He only understands how to be negative."
Smitherman noted Conservatives voted against the Ontario Liberal plan to
bring investments to Ontario.
"We put $500 million on the table and leveraged $7 billion in auto sector
investments and thousands of new jobs. The Harris Tory party called that
'corporate welfare'. I call that standing up for Ontario and getting the job
done," Smitherman said.
The next step is the $1.15 billion Next Generation Jobs Fund, which will
leverage investments in green technologies, health and biotechnology research,
creative industries like digital media, and pharmaceutical research and
"We are the only party with a positive plan to grow new jobs so that our
families succeed," said Smitherman. "John NegaTory and Howard Hampton have no
plan, no vision, just negativity."
