Jewish Student Organization Commends the CFS in its Decision to Reject Anti-Israel Motion

GATINEAU, QC, Nov. 23 /CNW/ - Last night, the opening plenary of the
Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) Annual Congress voted to "object to
consideration" concerning a motion put forward by the Ryerson Student Union
(RSU). The motion called for an investigation into the feasibility of a
boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel. The strong
message sent by over two thirds of the voting plenary clearly stated that the
CFS stands for open dialogue and academic freedom.
"We are very pleased that CFS has determined that this issue has no place
on the agenda and that the organization stands in support of academic
freedom," said Alex Halpern, the President of the Canadian Federation of
Jewish Students (CFJS), upon learning of last evening's result. He made clear
that, "Canadian students should be very proud that CFS has taken a principled
stand to uphold academic freedom and promote open dialogue."

The Canadian Federation of Jewish Students (CFJS) is the official
