GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 4 /CNW Telbec/ - In keeping with its wish to inform
its membership in anticipation of the next federal election, the Conseil
régional d'action politique de l'Outaouais (CRAPO) of the Public Service
Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will be receiving the Leader of the New Democratic
Party, Jack Layton, on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 in Gatineau.
In addition to Mr. Layton, the NDP candidate in the riding of
Hull-Aylmer, Pierre Ducasse will also be present. It will be a unique
opportunity for PSAC members to discuss with Mr. Layton and Mr. Ducasse their
concerns as citizens and employees of the federal public sector.
"We wish to continue the dialogue with allies of the union movement,"
explained Daniel Charron, president of CRAPO. "Through this type of meeting,
we will be able to ask them questions on the protection of public services, on
more fairness in the taxation system, on the increased use of subcontracting
and public-private partnerships and on the sell-off of property belonging to
the Canadian people. We will then be able to inform our members to help them
decide who, among the candidates for the next federal election, are best able
to protect the federal public sector to ensure that delivery of quality
services continue to be offered to the public."
This meeting, which is open to PSAC members and media representatives,
will take place on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the
Bélanger-Thériault room at the Fédération des travailleurs et travailleuses du
Québec (FTQ-Outaouais), 259 St. Joseph Blvd., Gatineau. Following
presentations by Jack Layton and Pierre Ducasse, members will then be able to
ask questions. Wine and cheese will be served following the meeting.
