It's a Green Hat Trick for IKEA Canada

IKEA Canada is recognized as One of Canada's Greenest Employers for Third Consecutive Year

BURLINGTON, ON, April 22 /CNW/ - For the third year in a row, IKEA Canada is recognized as One of Canada's Greenest Employers by Mediacorp. The Greenest Employers designation recognizes employers that lead the nation in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations. This year, IKEA was recognized for its international initiatives with UNICEF, Save the Children and WWF as well as their long standing partnership with Tree Canada, the launch of a new partnership with Make-a-Wish Canada, in-store recycling programs, solar panel projects, green parking policies, mandatory environmental training programs and sustainable procurement guidelines.

"Being recognized as one of Canada's Greenest Employers for the third consecutive year is huge honour, and a testament to IKEA's commitment to operating a sustainable retail business in Canada," says Kerri Molinaro, President of IKEA Canada. "Our biggest ambassadors at IKEA are our co-workers and they take great pride in supporting our sustainability programs. This recognition illustrates that IKEA is not just a great place to work, but a company co-workers can be proud to work for."

The environmental nod comes on the heels of a new book IKEA has launched for co-workers. Every IKEA co-worker around the world, including 4,000 co-workers in Canada, received their own personal copy of the book, "The Never Ending Job." The goal of the book is to share knowledge and inspire co-workers, highlighting what IKEA has done to ensure we are a more sustainable business, how co-workers can make a difference in their own store, and areas that IKEA can improve upon. Recognizing that not all co-workers have unlimited daily access to computers, IKEA determined that producing a book would be the best and most viable way to share our message with co-workers. The book is printed on recycled paper, which meets the requirements for traceability and sustainable forest management.

In addition to the book, co-workers are also encouraged to participate in Earth Day activities during the month of April. IKEA recently launched a recycling build off competition to co-workers encouraging them to build a product using recycled materials or products from IKEA's iconic AS IS or Builders Corner. Submissions will be featured on IKEA Canada's Facebook site (
