Invitation to the press - Towards a global and integrated understanding of the living

    MONTREAL, March 10 /CNW Telbec/ - The IRCM (Institut de recherches
cliniques de Montréal) organize its second meeting on systems biology and the
molecular networks.

    Novel high-throughput technologies specifically designed for the study of
living organisms as complex molecular systems have now made it possible to
systematically identify and characterize the molecules and interactions
underlying cellular pathways, tissues, organs and organisms. The combination
of systems-level experimental approaches with the use of computational tools
to integrate, visualize and analyze large-scale data sets is at the heart of
an emerging research discipline termed Integrative or Systems Biology. Systems
approaches are increasingly being used to obtain a quantitative and predictive
understanding of fundamental biological questions and promises to have wide
applications in medicine and other areas.
    This 2nd IRCM meeting will bring together about 200 scientists involved
in these research fields and a selection of invited speakers will discuss the
role of protein-protein, protein-DNA and protein-metabolite interactions in
various thematic aspects of biomedical research.
