the big game this Sunday? When you're hosting a Super Bowl party, whether it's
a party for two or two hundred, it's similar to being a quarterback. Just as a
quarterback needs to develop a game plan and execute it well to connect with
his receivers, you need to establish a checklist and faithfully carry it out,
so your party will be a hit with your guests. Pat Finelli, Chief Marketing
Officer for Pizza Pizza has all the ins and outs of planning a super menu for
Super Bowl Sunday - including information from a recent online poll on the top
rated foods for the big game. For more information about the poll, see the

Toronto, February 2, 2008 - While Super Bowl Sunday is the "#1" at-home
party event of the year in America, surpassing New Year's Eve, it is also a
festive time in Canada according to the results of an online poll conducted by
Pizza Pizza, the country's industry leader for pizza delivery and slices sold.
Almost 70% of the 567 poll respondents - 308 males and 260 females
predominantly in the 16 to 36 years and up age bracket - stated they are
planning to host or attend a Super Bowl party for this Sunday's big game
between the New England Patriots and New York Giants. The majority of those
surveyed will be watching the game at a party with seven or more people. And,
party or not, people will definitely be watching, as a whopping 74% of
respondents said they will be among the Super Bowl viewers.
While respondents to the Pizza Pizza poll listed the atmosphere
surrounding the spectacle and the game itself as the most important aspects of
the Super Bowl party, they also gave prominent billing to the food they look
forward to eating on that day. Pizza was the top choice of 69% of respondents,
with bite-sized appetizers, chicken, sandwiches and French fries following in
that order - all of which are on the Pizza Pizza menu.
"The results are not a surprise to us, because next to Halloween, Super
Bowl Sunday is our biggest day of the year in terms of processing pizza
orders," said Pat Finelli, Chief of Marketing for Pizza Pizza. "We typically
sell more than 40,000 pizzas on that day and 200,000 chicken wings, chicken
bites and breaded shrimp. On Super Bowl Sunday, our restaurants and call
centres beef up the number of staff and drivers to ensure that customers
receive their order on time and hot and fresh."
If Pizza Pizza's sampling of opinion is a measuring stick, a lot of
Canadians will be joining a potential worldwide audience of one billion
viewers. Many of the party-goers will be serious football fans, but just as
many are likely to be casual observers relishing the opportunity for some
dead-of-winter revelry.
Even if you aren't a football aficionado, you can contribute to Super Bowl
party conversation by injecting the occasional tidbit of information into the
conversation. When the camera is focused on the pre-game coin toss, you can
expertly point out, for example, that the team losing the toss has lost the
last four Super Bowls. If the game is tied in the waning minutes, you can
impress your fellow party-goers by pointing out that no Super Bowl has ever
gone into overtime.
And, oh yes, you can also toss around some impressive statistics, such as:
Pizza Pizza processes 125 pizza orders a minute at peak times on Super Bowl
Sunday, and goes through about three tons of pepperoni slices and over nine
tons of mozzarella cheese on a day when food and football reign supreme.
