Interview and Photo Opportunities: International Symposium on Transportation Innovation and Transportation Design Charrette

experienced minds in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Region as well as
international advisors to talk about transportation. They will be
participating in a full day Transportation Design Charrette and in an evening
symposium on Mobility Without Borders.

    8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Glass Room, 4th Floor

    Mobility Without Borders: An International Symposium on Transportation

    Networking Reception - 6:00 p.m. Lower Rotunda
    Symposium - 7:00- 9:00 p.m. Eaton Theatre

    Transportation Design Charrette:

    WHO:   Innovators and professionals from a variety of multidisciplinary
           fields, including urban planning, transportation and industrial
           design; developers, real estate experts and academics will also
           join a number of international experts (see below).

    WHAT:  Participants will put their creative expertise to the test and
           boldly propose what a transformed regional transportation system
           could look like. Their mission is to focus on:
           -  Mobility hubs: how it fits into the surrounding neighbourhood
              and how it looks
           -  Complete streets: elements to make the streetscape more
              welcoming for a wider variety of users; and
           -  Designing better transit vehicles: to address issues of
              accessibility, comfort and cool, inspiring design

interview opportunities at 1:45 pm.

    Mobility Without Borders: International Symposium on Transportation

    WHO:   International transportation innovators with first-hand knowledge
           and experience in delivering better transportation:
           -  Professor George Hazel, a key advisor to the UK and Australian
              governments, who led the introduction of transit priority
              measures in Edinburgh, Scotland and pioneered car-free
              developments and car-sharing initiatives in the U.K.;
           -  Dr. Pierre Laconte, Honourary Secretary General of the
              worldwide network of public transport professionals at
              International Association of Public Transport based in
              Brussels, and an expert on transport and urban planning;
           -  Michael Glotz-Richter, Senior Project Manager of Sustainable
              Mobility for the City of Bremen, Germany, and international
              leader in mobility hub development;
           -  Sue Flack, Head of Sustainable Transport for Northamptonshire
              County Council in England, and an acknowledged leader in the
              sustainable management of urban growth, and land-use transit
              planning; and
           -  Dr. Steven Cassidy, Regional Director for Europe of MRC McLean
              Hazel, a leading innovator of transportation-oriented
              information technology and communications.

    WHAT:  These experts have implemented successful transportation
           initiatives and will talk about the challenges they faced, their
           successes, and how we can apply this knowledge to meet our own
           transportation vision.
