Innovative Asthma Study Wins National Workplace Health Award

    Moncton, NB, Nov. 8 /CNW/ - Medavie Blue Cross, GlaxoSmithKline Inc. and
Moosehead Breweries Ltd. recently won a Who's Who in Workplace Health Award
for their collaborative efforts in managing asthma in the workplace. The award
was presented at the Working Well magazine's inaugural launch and award
ceremony in Toronto on October 26, 2007.
    The Who's Who Awards honors individuals and businesses who have
demonstrated leadership and innovation and who have made a difference in
Canadian health care.
    Medavie Blue Cross, GlaxoSmithKline Inc. and Moosehead Breweries Ltd.
were presented with this award in the disease management category following a
two-year asthma study called Inspire at Work. The study looked at the impact
asthma education in the workplace has on controlling asthma symptoms, and
involved 100 employees and their family members.
    Inspire at Work is the first program of its kind to be reviewed by peers
in Canada. The study was published in Pharmacy Practice, April 2007, and the
Canadian Pharmacists Journal, March/April 2007 edition.
    "The team that worked on the project for more than three years is excited
and honored to have won this national award," says Laurier Fecteau, Vice

used by organizations and governments to make a business case for investing in
organizational health."
    The Inspire at Work study found that an asthma management program in the
workplace leads to increased productivity, reduced absenteeism, fewer doctor
visits and decreased medication-related problems. In fact, results
demonstrated a positive return on investment of $4.24 per dollar spent on the

forward to beginning another research study with a focus on managing diabetes
in the workplace.
