EDMONTON, May 21 /CNW/ - Merv Bashforth was installed as president of the
Alberta College of Pharmacists for the 2009-10 term at the college's annual
general meeting on May 21, 2009.
Under Merv's leadership, the college will continue to fulfill its mandate
of governing the pharmacy profession in Alberta to support and protect the
public's health and well-being.
To help Albertans have better access the care they need and deserve, Merv
will further the college's support of pharmacists as they employ their
authorizations to administer drugs by injection, adapt prescriptions (e.g.,
refill existing prescriptions, adjust dosages or dosage forms) and prescribe.
All of these services allow pharmacists to use the full range of their
knowledge and skills. More importantly, they let Albertans and our health
system benefit from the appropriate use of health professionals.
Merv is the owner of Hinton IDA and Valley IDA in Hinton. He is serving
his fourth year on the college's governing body.
The Alberta College of Pharmacists is responsible for ensuring safe,
effective and responsible pharmacist practice in Alberta. The college governs
the pharmacy profession, registers pharmacists and licenses pharmacies.
