IMAGIN Diagnostic Centres offers free PET scan certificates to all Ontario physicians for cancer patients during Cancer Awareness Month

Ontarian Physicians can join Waiting List for one free PET scan for one
cancer patient by signing on as a clinical investigator in cancer
clinical trials during the month of November.

TORONTO, Nov. 2 /CNW/ - IMAGIN Diagnostic Centers (IMAGIN) has designated
November as Cancer Awareness Month and initiated a special program to help
cancer patients with diagnosis of, staging of and treatment planning for
cancer by offering a free PET (positron emission tomography) scan certificate
to all Ontarian physicians to be used by their cancer patients. Physicians
will be required to join a clinical trial which is targeting lung, breast,
colorectal, melanoma and lymphoma cancers.
IMAGIN started with an inventory of approximately $1,000,000 of PET scan
certificates funded by charitable donations and by IMAGIN. Patrick Rooney, CEO
of IMAGIN stated, "Too often we are seeing cancer patients or suspected cancer
patients who are either unfamiliar with PET scans as the gold standard of
cancer diagnosis or they simply can't afford the $2,400 cost of a private PET
scan. PET scans are not covered by medical reimbursement in any province
except Quebec and on a limited bases in clinical trials in all other
provinces. PET scans are approved for Medicare reimbursement in most developed
countries of the world. Ontario is the exception. Someone must step up and
help cancer patients who are often dying prematurely because of lack of PET
technology to give them hope and often extend life".
For the month of November, Ontario's MD's can sign up any time until
November 30, 2007 on our PET scan waiting list and refer a patient for one PET
scan. One PET scan certificate per MD can be used by one qualified patient.
All sign-ups by physicians must occur in the November time frame. We will fill
open scanning spots for free and do not expect patients to wait more than a
couple of weeks to be scheduled. All PET scans will be performed at our
Mississauga location. Through our Cancer Awareness program we hope to have
physicians across Ontario focus on the effectiveness of PET technology in the
fight against cancer. More than 100 Ontarians are alive today because the
results of a cancer diagnosis received from a PET scan performed at our CARE
Imaging PET Scan Centre in Mississauga. It is estimated that over 50% of the
time a change in a cancer patient's treatment protocol occurred after a PET
scan. We hope Ontarian physicians will get involved for the benefit of their
cancer or suspected cancer patients"
