IIDEX/NeoCon Canada Honors Tandus with Two Innovation Gold Awards

Tandus' Bas Relief Series and Saraband Recognized

    TORONTO, October 1 /CNW/ - IIDEX/NeoCon Canada announced the 2007
Innovation Awards winners at the annual ARIDO (Association of Registered
Interior Designers of Ontario) Awards of Excellence gala dinner last week, and
Tandus was honored with two Gold innovation Awards for its Monterey brand's
Bas Relief Series and Saraband.

The Bas Relief Series is Suzanne Tick's latest study in woven broadloom
carpet structure. The Series' two running-line styles, Monterey's Bas Relief
Rib and Bas Relief Grid, offer the highest relief ever offered in a carpet for
contract sale. Volumes of extra large, twisted yarn bundles provide excessive
texture almost as a "sculpture." Through a combination of volume and complex
yarn twisting techniques, this soft carpet face absorbs heavy foot traffic,
and is designed as a destination carpet for reception, personal and communal

"The profile of this series can be looked at as a design element, with
the beautiful woven inlay serving as an oasis, a fraction of luxury, similar
to the way an area rug functions on a hardwood floor," said Ms. Tick, Design
Director, Tandus.

In addition, Tandus won a Gold Award for its new product, Saraband. With
the development of Saraband, Tandus feels as though it's finally found the
correct balance between geometry and fluidity. Using an expansive pattern
repeat tufting technique, multiple layers of patterns coexist as partial
images, in which both geometric and fluid motifs appear to a lesser or an
uncertain degree. Blocks of multi-colour stop and start along the length, as
abstract organic influences camouflage the subtle linearity.

First introduced into the marketplace at NeoCon 07' in June, Saraband can
be a perfect mid-scale solution for condominium corridors, medical office
buildings and many other public spaces where a durable carpet is needed, but
one with a more residential feel.

The Innovation Awards are hosted by the Interior Designers of Canada and
Merchandise Mart Properties (Canada) Inc., managers of IIDEX/ NeoCon Canada,
the country's largest exposition and conference for the design, construction
and management of the built environment.
