SASKATOON, Jan. 7 /CNW/ - Hudson's Bay Company (Hbc) President, Robert
Johnston, was in Saskatoon today to visit local Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters
and Fields stores, and also to present a $50,000 cheque to the Canadian Sport
Centre of Saskatchewan. The donation is part of Hbc's commitment to support
local amateur athletes in their pursuit of medals at the Commonwealth, Olympic
and Paralympic Games.
"The Canadian Sport Centre of Saskatchewan assists in creating a premiere
training environment for amateur athletes," said Johnston, who is conducting
store tours and meeting associates in communities across Saskatchewan. "Our

The Canadian Sport Centre of Saskatchewan provides a comprehensive range
of services for athletes and coaches, covering all aspects of life - both
inside and out of the sport world. The Centre's programs and services are
divided into three streams: Performance Enhancement, Support Services and Life
Services to enhance overall development.

Through this funding, we have been able to create and enhance programs to
better prepare our high performance athletes and coaches as they strive for

Hbc intends to raise $20 million to amateur athletes and elite training
facilities, including the Canadian Sport Centre of Saskatchewan, over a period
of seven years. To date, the Company has raised $5.8 million through in store
events, as well as the annual Hbc Run for Canada, which takes place in 15
cities across Canada, including Saskatoon. Funds raised through the Hbc Run
for Canada are donated to athletes in the form of bursaries.
