Honda Canada Building Head Office Campus in Markham, Ontario

TORONTO, Aug. 20 /CNW/ - To house growing sales, marketing and customer
service operation teams, Honda Canada Inc. will build a head office campus in
Markham, Ontario on a 47+ acre parcel of land fronting Highway 404, just north
of Elgin Mills Road. The project is estimated to take a minimum of two years
to complete, with a tentative move-in date of Summer 2009.
"The new space allows for greater economic and operational efficiencies,
while expanding our economic contribution to Canada," said Executive Vice
President Honda Canada Inc., Jim Miller. "Honda considered many options and
decided on a municipality that complemented our business philosophy - speed to
market, focus on customer service and driven by innovative solutions."
The campus will house three separate but interconnected buildings,
including a four-storey LEED(TM) (Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design) green building for the head office, advancing Honda's continued
commitment to the environment; a technical centre that accommodates research
and development, engineering and training; and a one-storey parts distribution
centre. Project build and design will be completed through a joint partnership
with ZAS + HOK architects.
"We are pleased to welcome Honda to the Town of Markham as one of our top
10 employers," said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. "Our results-driven approach to
economic development has helped us attract a business and community member
that will allow for future growth and continued prosperity."
The location selected by Honda reflects a commitment to its Associates,
community and brand. Markham offered access to transportation infrastructure,
respecting travel distances required of existing Associates. As active
community partners, Honda also looks forward to contributing to its new local
community through volunteerism and outreach.
"As the fastest growing region in the GTA, we focus on attracting
companies that create a resilient and prosperous economy," said York Region
Chair and CEO, Bill Fisch. "We welcome Honda as a company that not only
brings, but attracts the best and the brightest workforce."

Building on its 2010 commitment to be a company that Canadians want to
exist, as the country's fourth largest privately held company(1), Honda lives,
works and plays in communities across Canada:

    - employing just over 5,000 Associates coast-to-coast
    - manufacturing 390,000 vehicles a year at two manufacturing facilities
       in Alliston, ON
    - donating annually to charitable organization to local community
organizations, and through the Honda Canada Foundation that focuses
       giving to registered charities
    - bringing to market the Honda Benefit - green, safe, fun - cars,
trucks, motorcycles, power and marine equipment for all that life
       offers.

Honda is the world's preeminent maker of engines for automobiles,
motorcycles and power equipment. With 124 manufacturing facilities in 28
countries worldwide, Honda now attracts nearly 20 million customers annually.
Honda Canada manufactures the Honda Ridgeline, Honda Civic Coupe, Sedan and Si
Coupe, and the Acura CSX and MDX at its two plants in Alliston, Ontario. A
new, third plant in Alliston, with the capacity to produce up to 200,000
efficient 4-cylinder engines annually, is scheduled to open in 2008.
