Highway 401 To Be Repaired Near Morrisburg

McGuinty Government Committed To Driver Safety

    TORONTO, Sept. 19 /CNW/ -

Ontario will repair 20 kilometres of Highway 401's westbound lanes from
Carman Road easterly to Upper Canada Road this fall near Morrisburg.
The $7.1-million contract was awarded to R.W. Tomlinson Limited of
Ottawa. The construction work includes: repaving and adding rumble strips and
fully paved shoulders to improve highway safety. Drivers will experience minor
delays during construction when the westbound lanes are reduced to one lane.
Motorists will be forewarned of lane closures by advanced signing.

"We are investing in our highways to keep people and goods moving. These
improvements support our economy and keep drivers safe," said Minister of
Transportation Jim Bradley

"Highway 401 is one of the busiest highways in Ontario and an important
connection to our community. It is important to keep this stretch of highway
in good repair," said Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry MPP Jim Brownell

    - This stretch of highway was built in 1967 and more than 21,000
        drivers use it each day.

    - Since 2003, the McGuinty government has committed $9 billion in
highways, roads and bridges and invested $7.4 billion in public
