Hedy Voluntarily Recalls Powdered Latex Gloves

CALGARY, June 5 /CNW/ - Hedy Canada is taking the proactive step to
recall its Non-Sterile, Lightly Powdered, Latex Medical Examination Gloves and
has suspended sales of the product. The company has sent the recall
notification to dealers and suppliers and is fully co-operating with Health
"While we agree with Health Canada that the direct risk to health is
considered low, we have chosen to implement the voluntary recall as part of
our quality control program," said Brent Rusk, Managing Director for Hedy. "We
take all quality issues very seriously and we feel this action is appropriate
to address the concerns of our customers and the public."
The company is working with Health Canada and has provided a detailed
Corrective Action outlining the recall process and root cause analysis. This
step and other actions of the company are in excess of those currently sought
by Health Canada.
"Our actions speak to our strong commitment to the health and safety of
our users and the quality controls used by our company," concluded Rusk.
Recent media reports suggest the manufactured gloves in question can not
be imported into the United States. This is incorrect in that the product
could be imported and would be subject to normal inspection processes.
The voluntary recall of these gloves has no impact on other products
distributed by Hedy.
