Health Summit - Exploring Effective Solutions for Today and Tomorrow

MONTREAL, June 5 /CNW Telbec/ - According to representatives of the
Collège des médecins du Québec and Me Paul G. Brunet, President of the Council
for the Protection of the Sick, the situation concerning the administration,
organization, financing and shortage of human resources within the province's
health network demands concerted action in order to preserve the quality of
medical services.
Consequently, the Collège des médecins is organizing a comprehensive
Health Summit for this coming fall under the theme, The Health System: It's
Everyone's Business, to which various partners and decision makers within the
health network will be invited to exchange their creative insights and
concrete ideas so as to find successful solutions to the problems confronting
the health system. "We need to extend beyond the current parameters, reinvent
a more reliable and effective organization, and to optimize the investments
being made," underlined the President and CEO of the Collège, Dr. Yves
Lamontagne, during a press conference.
Thanks to this important Summit, to be held November 5-7 by invitation
only, the Collège des médecins intends to develop an action plan to be made
public by the end of November 2007. "The Summit will be focused on three
fundamental subjects - work organization, system administration and
financing," explained Collège Secretary, Dr. Yves Robert. "We are anticipating
taking a proactive approach in dealing with these issues to maximize the
benefits to public welfare."
The representatives of the Collège have identified several specific
subject areas that will be dealt with at the Health Summit, such as a new
distribution of tasks, the alignment of the private and public sectors, and
reducing bureaucracy, among others.
Anyone in the general public or involved in the health sector is invited
to submit solutions on the subjects being treated at the Summit by e-mail to

The Collège des médecins du Québec is the province's professional order
