Hatch: Québec expertise gains international recognition

    MONTREAL, Oct. 22 /CNW Telbec/ - Hatch Ltd., a leading engineering
consulting company in project management and construction, receives the
prestigious Project of the Year Award at the PMI (Project Management
Institute) North American Project Management Congress in Denver, Colorado. PMI
is the leading global association of Project Management Professionals with
280 000 members and credential holders in 170 countries.
Hatch won the award for its major role in this ambitious project to
expand the ALP (acid leaching plant) and SPP (slag preparation plant) sectors
of QIT-Fer et Titane's UGS plant in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. Hatch was entrusted
with virtually all of the major project deliverables; due to the team's
expertise, the UGS facility was able to increase production by 15%, the
$145 million project was delivered three months ahead of schedule, and the
client saved $15 million.
Hatch Ltd. along with QIT-Fer et Titane were crowned in Denver in this
international competition after having won the Elixir Award in January 2008,
sponsored by PMI-Montreal. "This is the second time in three years that one of
the winning projects at the PMI-Montréal Elixir Gala also wins the
international for Project of the Year competition, says Gabriel de Puyjalon,
executive director of PMI-Montréal. In 2005, the Quartier international de
Montréal Project was thrust into the international spotlight, winning the
P.O.Y. - a first for Montreal. This is yet another fine example of the
know-how, competency and expertise in project management on the part of
Quebec-based enterprises."
Dr. Michael Kamel, Chairman of the PMI-Montréal Board of Directors hopes
that the Hatch, Ltd. victory will inspire other organisations to submit their
project for the Elixir Gala, to be held on January 29, 2009 at the Delta
Hotel - Centre Ville. This year, several new categories were added, as well as
a special-recognition prize for upcoming professionals in project management,
the Prix La Relève PMI-Montréal/Les Affaires. This extra award will highlight
superior project management work by a graduating university student within an
enterprise project environment. Stéphane Lavallée, Editor of the Journal Les
Affaires and partner in the Elixir Gala, is highly enthusiastic about the new
award. "This is an ideal formula, for it allows us to promote both project
management expertise and much needed succession within the ranks - two
essential elements to business successd" explains the Editor.
Candidatures remain open for all Elixir Gala 2009 categories.

PMI-Montréal is one of the 10 largest chapters of the Institute, with
close to 3000 members in Montreal of which more than half are Certified
Professionals in project management
