Hartford Global Leaders Fund in category's number one spot - Bill Kanko celebrates third anniversary at helm of fund

In a year of extreme volatility, Hartford Global Leaders Fund protected
capital better than any other global equity fund in Canada

TORONTO, Aug. 27 /CNW/ - Three years ago, renowned money manager Bill
Kanko made headlines by joining forces with Hartford Investments to become
Lead Manager of Hartford Global Leaders Fund. Today, he is making headlines
again as the fund sits in the number one position among global equity mandates
offered by Canadian fund companies.
Over the past year ending July 31, 2009, Hartford Global Leaders Fund
outperformed its index and peer group by over 15 percent.
"There are very few - if any - global equity managers available to
Canadian mutual fund investors who have Bill's experience and track record of
success," says Hartford Investments' President Laurie Davis. "That's why we
partnered with Bill in the first place, and it's why we will continue to work
together to build long-term wealth for investors."
July also marks the first anniversary of fellow money manager Richard
Jenkins joining Kanko as partner at Black Creek Investment Management, the
sub-advisor of Hartford Global Leaders Fund, as well as the Jenkins-led
Hartford Global Balanced and International Equity Funds. Like Global Leaders,
the balanced fund is also the number one fund in its category over past 12
months ending July 31, 2009. The fund gained 4.4 per cent over the past year,
nearly 16 per cent ahead of the average return in its peer group.
Kanko credits the fact that Hartford Investments continues to be in
positive net sales as a key advantage in managing their funds.
"Having small funds with consistently positive inflows means we're better
able to take advantage when so many good opportunities come our way as they
have over the past year. Clearly, it's much better for long-term performance
when you can buy into a down market as opposed to forced selling to cover
