Hampton's NDP fights for better public transit, more jobs for Northern Ontario

TORONTO, April 11 /CNW/ - NDP Leader Howard Hampton today called for a
greater commitment to public transit, including light-rail, to create more
good-paying jobs for Northerners and to meet Ontario's transit needs.
And unlike Dalton McGuinty, Hampton believes those streetcars, subway
cars, and rail transport cars should be made in Ontario. The McGuinty Liberals
have scrapped the "Ontario First" transit policy that ensured that transit
vehicles used in Ontario are manufactured in Ontario. Since then, the City of
Ottawa has taken its business out of the province, hurting the Northern
economy and workers.
What's worse, there is a jobs crisis across Northwestern Ontario. And a
big reason why is Dalton McGuinty, his job-killing energy policies and a pair
of quiet Liberal backbenchers who have utterly failed to put the concerns of
Northern workers on the front-burner at Queen's Park.
