Hampton Reverses Longstanding NDP Support for Subway Line to York University and York Region

TORONTO, April 11 /CNW/ - Today, in a shocking policy reversal Howard
Hampton came out against the much discussed subway line only months before its
construction is set to begin.
"I am a lifelong Torontonian and I've followed this debate for decades,"
stated deputy premier George Smitherman. "We have the money and are finally
about to build. Toronto's NDP is now against subway expansion. It's a major
flip flop and one sure to disappoint York University students and York region
residents alike."
The McGuinty Liberals are working hard to turn around 10 years of neglect
by the NDP and Tories. While Howard Hampton and the NDP want to take us
backwards, the McGuinty Liberals will continue to work hard to clean up the
air we breathe. We are determined to get more cars off the road with better
public transit and to help York University students get to school.
