TORONTO, June 24 /CNW/ - The Co-operators Group will receive a Fire
Safety Partner Award from the Fire Marshal of Ontario at a ceremony on
June 25, 2008 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding
contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
The Toronto Fire Services has been working with the Co-operators over the
past eight years on the production and distribution of an annual Seniors'
Safety calendar. Last year, the Co-Operators agreed to team up with Toronto
Fire Services once again by sponsoring The Great Escape, an interactive CD
game designed to teach fire safety to children. The Co-operators were
instrumental in Toronto Fire Services obtaining thousands of CDs
To assist in distributing the CDs and promoting fire safety to children,
the Co-operators provided a display for use at local events and children's
venues. The display has been used during at the Ontario Science Centre and at
Kid's Day at the Canadian National Exhibition. They Co-operators also paid to
have world-renowned children's entertainer Al Simmons perform during Kid's
Day, which resulted in many children attending the CNE fire station to learn
about fire safety.
"The Co-operators has provided ongoing support to initiatives that will
continue to have a long lasting impact on fire safety for the people of
Toronto," said Fire Marshal Patrick Burke.
Fire departments throughout the province nominated individuals and
organizations for this year's awards; 17 recipients were selected. The
Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services Rick Bartolucci and
Fire Marshal Burke will present the awards at a luncheon ceremony at the
Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto.
