Grocery chain helps fight prostate cancer this June

    Canada Safeway runs month-long awareness and fundraising campaign

    CALGARY, June 11 /CNW/ - As part of their commitment to improve the
health and wellness of Canadians, grocery leader Canada Safeway Limited has
launched a significant partnership with the Prostate Cancer Research
Foundation of Canada in the fight against prostate cancer.
    Throughout June, Safeway customers will have an opportunity to donate to
the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada (PCRFC) at their stores
across western Canada. For a minimum $2 donation, they will be given a coupon
sheet for savings on select items each week in June. In addition, customers
who donate on June 14, Safeway's "Be There For Dad Day", will also receive a
booklet promoting the positive effects of a healthy diet and active lifestyle
called "A Rainbow of Colours - Preventing Cancer Through Good Nutrition."
Store staff will join in the fun by organizing in-store fundraising
    The in-store campaign complements Safeway's first year of title
sponsorship of the Safeway Father's Day Walk/Run for Prostate Cancer. The
event is being held on Sunday June 15 in Metro Vancouver, Kelowna, Kamloops,
Calgary and Edmonton, with many employees taking part. The Foundation and
their partners, the BC Foundation for Prostate Disease and the Okanagan
Prostate Resource Centre, expect to raise $650,000 through these events.

Canadians more aware of the threat of the disease. I'm also leading one of
many Safeway teams, Team Safeway Selects, at the Walk/Run as an extension of
our support of this great event."
    Canada Safeway has supported the PCRFC since 2003. Each June they hold
in-store campaigns to raise awareness and funds for cutting edge research
across the country.
