Greyhound Launches Second Year of 'Road Scholar' Program

Students can enter to win the tuition, prizes

TORONTO, April 2 /CNW/ -- Greyhound Canada has launched the second annual
Greyhound Road Scholar contest, a scholarship program that gives students a
chance to win university or college tuition and books for one year plus $1,000
worth of prizes. The program received more than 25,000 student entries during
its first year. Students can find more information and register at
"The Road Scholar program got off to a successful start last year," said
Paul Dillon, marketing director, Greyhound Canada. "We awarded three students
$5,000 for tuition and books for one year. They also received $1,000 in
additional prizes. Our hope is to help more students this year because we
understand it can be a struggle to pay for higher education."
Three winners from across the country will be awarded $5,000 for tuition
and books for one year, while fifteen other students will receive Discovery
Passes as secondary prizes. The Discovery Pass is a flexible 30-day pass where
travelers can hop on and hop off Greyhound buses to anywhere the company
travels in North America.
Each time students ride Greyhound or ship using Greyhound Courier Express
(GCX) they receive one entry by registering on-line and entering the special
code found on their receipt. Students also get up to five entries for
referring their friends. The winner will be notified via phone or email on
Sept. 7, 2007. In addition, winners' names will be posted on the Greyhound
Road Scholar Web site.
"The Greyhound Road Scholar program is just one way we can give back to
some of our best customers and give them a year they will never forget," said
Since 1997, Greyhound Canada has been awarding scholarships to Canadian
students. In 2006, the Road Scholar program replaced the Travel is Educational
Too! scholarship program, which awarded scholarships and prizes to graduating
high school students. The Road Scholar program has increased its prizing to
nearly $20,000 and reaches a wider student audience by extending the
scholarship opportunity to university and college students. High school
students in their senior year are also eligible.
