GreenField Ethanol now posting corn bids for its Johnstown plant

JOHNSTOWN, ON, Dec. 10 /CNW/ - GreenField Ethanol, Canada's leading
ethanol producer, announced today that it is now buying corn for its Johnstown
plant in Eastern Ontario under the newly expanded Ontario Buy Direct Program.
The announcement was made as Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Gerry Ritz
and Gord Brown, Member of Parliament for Leeds-Grenville toured the plant
"The Johnstown plant will provide Eastern Ontario farmers with a new
market for their corn," said company Vice President Bliss Baker. "Our
partnership with farmers is the backbone of our business and we are thrilled
to provide them with this opportunity to sell us their corn directly."
GreenField is now posting bids on its website (
for corn delivered to the 200-million litre Johnstown plant, currently under
construction. Opening at the end of 2008, the plant will require 20 million
bushels of corn per year.
"This Government strongly supports the development of biofuels, which
will lead to new markets for our farmers, help reduce greenhouse gas
emissions, and create new jobs for our cities and towns," said Minister Ritz.
The Ontario Buy Direct Program, the first of its kind in Ontario for a
commercial operation, allows Ontario producers exclusively to sell their corn
directly to GreenField. The company offers producers several grain marketing
alternatives to manage their risk, provide control over cash flow, potentially
increase profitability and provide contract flexibility.
This year GreenField Ethanol will purchase approximately 33 million
bushels of corn but the demand is growing substantially. GreenField projects
it will need close to 70 million bushels of corn for ethanol for its existing
and two new plants. Of that amount about one-third will be returned to the
farmer as feed in the form of dried distillers grains.
Farmers wanting to sell their corn directly to GreenField's Johnstown and
Chatham plants through the Ontario Buy Direct Program (OBDP) may visit or call 1-888-471-3661.

GreenField Ethanol, formerly Commercial Alcohols, is Canada's leading
ethanol producer. The company produces 250 million litres a year of corn-based
fuel ethanol at its plants in Chatham and Tiverton, Ontario and Varennes,
Quebec. GreenField's largest plant to date, in Johnstown, Ontario, will be
operational in 2008. The company's Hensall, Ontario plant will be operational
in 2009. GreenField Ethanol will be one of the top producers in North America
with five operating plants, producing more than 700 million litres of ethanol
per year by 2009. GreenField's Ethanol is available at more than 1,500 gas
stations across Canada. The federal government contributed $15 million towards
the construction of the Johnstown facility under the Ethanol Expansion
