Green means go for Canadians searching for electronics products: survey

          New Samsung Touch of Colour desktop monitors are so green
                   you'll want to "plant one" on your desk

    MISSISSAUGA, ON, May 11 /CNW/ - When shopping for consumer electronics,
four out of five (81 per cent) Canadians say that their purchasing decisions
are influenced by the inclusion of eco-friendly features, and three out of
four (75 per cent) are willing to pay more for products that offer lower
energy consumption, according to a recent Leger Marketing survey commissioned
by Samsung Electronics Canada.
    In response to increased consumer demand for green products, Samsung is
launching the 70-series "Touch of Colour" (ToC(TM)) LCD desktop monitor - the
greenest of all monitors on the market today - which offers the perfect
combination of technology, style and environmentally-friendly design.
    "The stats speak for themselves. It is clear that Canadians want to be
environmentally responsible while keeping up with the latest technology, and
we want to help them do both," says Marco Nalli, marketing manager, IT
Division, Samsung Electronics Canada. "A new Samsung monitor is one piece of
computer equipment that can be used for generations to come."
    Samsung's new ToC(TM) monitors consume one-third less power than their
competitors - equal to planting four new trees per year, are manufactured
without the use of lead or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) which are harmful
to the environment, and have a reduced carbon footprint through innovations in
packaging, shipping and manufacturing. Plus, the power-off feature
automatically shuts off the monitor when you're not using it, not only saving
energy but also prolonging the monitor life.
    These new monitors also boast full 1080p HD picture (21.5" and 23" models
only), a wider screen, a dynamic contrast ratio of 50,000:1 with 2 ms response
time, and Samsung's own space-saving design. At just 30 mm thick, they offer
elegance and versatility for any home or office space.
    Continuing its legacy of delivering leading-edge technology combined with
unique aesthetic design, these monitors are finely crafted - from the cobalt
blue, crystal neck that gives the illusion that the panel is floating, all the
way around to the clean, black silhouette. The high-gloss bezel actually
changes colour with the room's light. Turn it on, and the function button
automatically fades off.
    The 70-series ToC(TM) models - P2070, P2270 and P2370 - will retail for a
suggested MSRP of $259.99, $299.99 and $329.99 respectively. The monitors will
be available Best Buy, Staples and all other major reseller partners this

models P2250 and P2350 - available exclusively through Future Shop this month
for a suggested MSRP of $269.99 and $299.99.
    The survey was conducted between April 23 and 26, 2009, and surveyed
1,513 adults across Canada. It is considered accurate within +/- 2.5
percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
