TORONTO, April 16 /CNW/ - Elementary public occasional teachers, members
of the Greater Essex County Occasional Teacher Local of the Elementary
Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO), reached a tentative collective
agreement with the Greater Essex County District School Board today.
Details of the agreement will be available following a ratification vote
later this month.
Greater Essex is the ninth occasional teacher local in Ontario to reach a
tentative four-year agreement.
"Occasional teachers are fully qualified teachers certified by the
College of Teachers. The Greater Essex County District School Board is showing
with this agreement that it recognizes the valuable contribution these hard
working professionals bring to elementary education every day they are called
in to work," said ETFO President David Clegg.
"This agreement will benefit my members but it will also ensure that
Greater Essex students will continue to receive high quality learning from
qualified professionals," said Catherine Cocchio, President of the ETFO
Greater Essex County Occasional Teacher Local.
The Greater Essex County Occasional Teacher Local represents
approximately 380 public elementary occasional teachers. Their contract
expired August 31, 2008.
The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario represents 73,000
elementary public school teachers and education workers across the province
and is the largest teacher federation in Canada.
