Grants to university and college students delivered

TORONTO, Sept. 20 /CNW/ - During the Leader's Debate both Howard Hampton
and John Tory suggested grants to Ontario college and university students are
not yet in place.
    They are wrong.
In fact, it was the NDP that cancelled direct grants to students, and
increased tuition fees by 50%.
The Conservatives, for 8 years, refused to bring them back and hiked
tuition fees further, deregulating some programs.
McGuinty Liberals froze tuition for two years, and brought in direct
grants for students.
Now 120,000 students are receiving direct grants. That's 1 in every 4
students today.
Hampton also said that tuition has now gone up 36%. That's not true
We're asking families to put in $1 for every $3 in new government
investments. The average tuition increase in the past 2 years has been 10%.
And now we will be introducing a $300 per year textbook and technology
grant for students.
    That's real progress.
