Good news for employers - apprenticeship training pays off!

HAMILTON, ON, March 26 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Canadian Apprenticeship
Forum-Forum canadien sur l'apprentissage in partnership with the Hamilton
Training Advisory Board and the Grand-Erie Training and Adjustment Board
hosted an Employer Engagement Forum from 7:30 am to 11:30 am at Michelangelo's
Banquet Centre. The goal of the forum is to have a constructive dialogue with
employers about the business case for apprenticeship training.
    The CAF-FCA, a not-for-profit, multi-partite organization that brings
together the key constituents within the apprenticeship community, is
partnering with various stakeholders in the apprenticeship community across
Canada in order to dialogue with Canadian employers in the construction,
manufacturing, transportation, and service industries.
"It is anticipated that these pilot forums will provide employers with
the opportunity to learn about the findings of the CAF-FCA's groundbreaking
Return on Apprenticeship Training Investment study", says David Santi, CAF-FCA
Board of Director and ArcelorMittal - Dofasco, Manager Learning and
Development Hamilton, Ontario. The key finding of this study is that hiring an
apprentice improves the bottom line: for every $1 of direct costs spent on
apprenticeship training, an employer receives, on average, a benefit of up to
$1.38. The findings of this research came directly from employers in
15 different trades across Canada who provided information on their
experiences with respect to the direct costs and benefits of apprenticeship
To further support CAF-FCA's statistical findings, employers who attended
the Employer Engagement Forum had the chance to discuss training as a
competitive advantage with other employers and communicate their perspectives.
The event in Hamilton also featured a chartered accountant who explained how
employers can maximize usage of incentives and tax credits. A report
summarizing the findings will be available in the early Fall on the CAF-FCA
