GO and ATU ratify contract

TORONTO, Jan. 11, 2008 /CNW/ - GO Transit and Amalgamated Transit Union
Local 1587 have agreed on a new contract for unionized GO employees.
The tentative agreement, negotiated last week, was approved today by GO
Transit's Board of Directors and ratified today in a vote by ATU members.
"This is great news for GO, for our employees, and for our customers,"
said GO Chairman Peter Smith. "Our goal was to reach a fair agreement that
would provide our employees with a competitive wage and benefit package,
ensure job stability, and keep our customers moving. That goal was achieved.
We thank our customers for being patient during the uncertainty of the
negotiation period."
The new four-year agreement, effective June 1, 2007, addresses all of the
key issues that were presented by the union to GO Transit.
ATU Local 1587 represents about 1,170 of GO's 1,460 employees. Unionized
staff include GO's bus drivers, station attendants, transit enforcement
officers, maintenance personnel, and office, professional and technical staff.
