TORONTO, Dec. 13, 2011 /CNW/ - After experiencing a Fall 2011 season
that clearly established Global as one of Canada's leading networks, Global is set to do it all over
again in 2012 with the announcement of its midseason lineup. With an
already impressive roster of established hit programs returning, Global
will add even more viewing clout to its schedule with the addition of
several compelling dramas. This includes the much buzzed about local
production of The Firm, based on the 1991 best-selling novel by world-renowned author John Grisham, the ground-breaking Canadian original Bomb Girls, the masterful Bones spin-off The Finder, and Touch featuring the highly anticipated return to TV by Kiefer Sutherland.
Global lights the fuse for its 2012 midseason with the primetime debut
of its new six-part series, Bomb Girls. Premiering Wednesday, January 4 - 8pm ET/PT, and starring Meg Tilly, this locally produced original drama profiles
the life-altering experiences of five brave Canadian women who risk
their lives working in a munitions factory during the Second World War.
The star-studded drama series, The Firm, continues the gripping saga of Mitch McDeere 10 years later. This
locally produced original program debuts with a special two-hour
premiere event on Sunday, January 8 - 9pm ET/PT on Global and NBC, with subsequent episodes airing Thursdays - 10pm ET/PT. Starring Josh Lucas, Molly Parker, Callum Keith Rennie and Julliette
Lewis, The Firm continues the story of attorney Mitch McDeere who, as a young
associate, brought down the prestigious Memphis law firm of Bendini,
Lambert & Locke. After a difficult decade, the series catches up with
the McDeere and his family as they emerge from isolation to reclaim
their lives and their future - only to find that past dangers are still
lurking and new threats are everywhere.
Born from one of Global's biggest hit series, The Finder makes its debut on Thursday, January 12 - 9pm ET/PT following an episode of Bones that sets up the first episode of The Finder. This compelling procedural, that sometimes takes a very quirky turn,
centres on a remarkable man (played by Geoff Stults) who, after
suffering a war injury in Iraq, discovers that his ability to help
others recover what they've lost has been transformed into something
much more extraordinary.
A full two years after the spectacular conclusion of 24, Kiefer Sutherland has found a project compelling enough to bring him
back to television. Touch is a dramatic series featuring a young mute boy who has a unique
ability to predict events. At the center of Touch is Martin Bohm (Sutherland), a widower and single father, haunted by an
inability to connect to his mute 11-year-old son, Jake. Everything
changes when Martin discovers that Jake possesses the ability to see
things that no one else can. This highly anticipated program has
generated so much interest that Global will air a sneak preview Wednesday, January 25 - 9pm ET/PT with the drama returning Monday, March 19 at 9pm ET/PT for its full run on Global.
Completing Global's roster of new additions are two comedies destined to
keep viewers laughing well into the night. The first is Napoleon Dynamite, adding a healthy dose of laughter to Global's already hilarious Sunday
night animation lineup beginning Sunday, January 15 - 8:30pm ET/PT. Based on the hit film of the same name, this is an animated series
that follows the continuing adventures of America's most awesome
awkward teenager and his eclectic family and friends as they struggle
to navigate small-town life in rural Idaho. The second, Are You There, Chelsea?, premieres Wednesday, January 18 - 9pm ET/PT as part of a Global double-bill featuring the first two episodes of this
new comedy. Inspired by the best-selling book from comedienne/talk show
host Chelsea Handler, this new comedy follows the exploits of
twenty-something bartender Chelsea (Laura Prepon, That '70s Show).
Kaley Cuoco helps launch the 2012 award season on Global when she hosts
the 38h Annual People's Choice Awards on Wednesday, January 11 - 9pm ET/PT. Known for bringing together a gamut of Hollywood heavyweights, People's Choice is the only awards show that gives fans a chance to vote for their
favourites in music, movies and television.
The red carpet excitement heats up again with the 18th Annual Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Lauded by critics for its style, simplicity and genuine warmth, the SAG awards return to Global on Sunday, January 19 - 8pm ET/PT. The unique ceremony will honour the best in acting in film and
television within a fast-paced and entertaining two-hour live
Global salutes the world's best in the music industry with The 54th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 12 - 8pm ET/PT. Music's biggest night honours excellence in the recording industry
with this year's honours including nominees Adele, Bruno Mars, Lady
