Global Petroleum Show kicks off tomorrow

    World's Largest Oil and Gas Show Expects Record Breaking Attendance

    CALGARY, June 9 /CNW/ - Global Petroleum Show (GPS) 2008, the world's
largest oil and gas event, officially starts tomorrow and event organizers are
expecting this year to be the largest in the show's forty year history.
    "This is a huge year for GPS," said Wes Scott, Event Director for Global
Petroleum Show. "We're celebrating 40 years of the show, expecting to set the
attendance record with over 60,000 visitors, and we've introduced ten new
features and The Global Petroleum Conference to the show. We're very proud
with what the show has to offer and are looking forward to the best GPS yet."
    The Global Petroleum Conference titled, Today's Conventional
Opportunities, Tomorrow's Unconventional Innovations: Reducing Overall Costs
and the Environmental Footprint, and Maximizing Recovery through Innovative
Technology Solutions will be moderated by the Canadian Broadcasting
Corporation's acclaimed news anchor Peter Mansbridge. Plenary session
participants include the Honourable Ed Stelmach, Premier, Government of
Alberta; Mr Gerry Protti, Executive Vice President Corporate Relations and
President, Offshore & International Division, EnCana Corporation; Soheil
Asgarpour, President, PTAC (Petroleum Technology Alliance Canada); Mr Kevin
Meyers, President, ConocoPhillips Canada; Sami Fahed Al-Rushaid, Chairman and
Managing Director - Kuwait Oil Company; and His Excellency Mohamed bin Dhaen
Al Hamli, Minister of Energy for the United Arab Emirates. The three day
conference features more than 100 presentations.
    Included in the new features is the Siemens Exiderdome - a one-of-a-kind
technology exhibit made up of 55 containers, 220 tons of steel and 20
kilometres of power cables, assembled together to showcase over 130,000
innovative products, services, systems and integrated solutions for the oil
and gas industry. Visitors will experience interactive demonstrations, expert
advice and technical information on thousands of products and applications,
all in one location.
    Wednesday, June 11 marks the oil and gas industry's party of the year -
the Global Petroleum Show Professional Bull Riders Invitational at the
Pengrowth Saddledome. This action-packed evening, produced by world-class bull
rider Cody Snyder, begins at 7:00 p.m. and includes an In The Dirt After Party
on the arena floor featuring a live performance from Canadian country music
star, Jake Mathews.
    Rounding out the new show features are the Global Petroleum Career
Exposition, Global Petroleum Show Charity Golf Tournament, in support of the
Werklund Foundation, Global Petroleum Show Gala Dinner, Fort McMurray Mine
Site Tour, Russian Oil & Gas Sector Conference, Oil Patch 101 and Heavy Oil
    Global Petroleum Show 2008 runs Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11
from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Thursday, June 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00
