TORONTO, Jan. 26 /CNW/ - Tomorrow the Federal government will officially
release the details of the most highly anticipated budget in Canadian history.
Now, after months of political drama and speculation, the real question is
what the new budget will mean for Canadians. Global News breaks down the
budget for Canadians with extensive news coverage, including a Budget Day
special, live videos and blogs on the website and a full wrap-up of the day's
events during Global National.
"Global News' comprehensive Budget Day coverage is dedicated to educating
Canadians on what this budget will mean for them," said Troy Reeb, SVP, News
and Current Affairs, Canwest Broadcasting. "From the impact on their jobs and
taxes to potential fallout from the US, Global News will give Canadians the
most in-depth information and analysis on how the budget will affect their
daily lives."
At 4 pm ET on Budget Day, Global National anchor Kevin Newman will host a
live special that will help Canadians decipher what the budget will mean for
their families, their jobs and their economic well-being. Guests will include
Dr. Sherry Cooper, Global Economic Analyst and Executive Vice President of BMO
Financial Group and Don Martin, the National Post's Ottawa-based national
affairs columnist.
Global News correspondents Jacques Bourbeau, Mike Armstrong and Peter
Harris will break down the details of the new budget to examine the potential
impact on the lives, job prospects and pocket books of Canadians. In Windsor,
a city hit hard by the downturn in the automotive sector and the crises
affecting their neighbours across the border, correspondent Mike Drolet will
talk to Mayor Eddie Francis about the significance of the budget on the city
and spend time with a Windsor-area family for whom the budget could provide
some much needed relief. During Global National, anchor Kevin Newman will
provide a full overview of Budget Day, with further analysis and insights into
its potential consequences for Canadians.
On, a live video stream of the budget presentation
will be available on the site from 4 pm to 4:30 pm ET and a team of bloggers
from across Canada will live blog from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm ET. These citizen
panelists, from across Canada and representing the views of average Canadians,
will share their thoughts on what the budget will mean for them and their
families. The panel includes Sherry Murugan, a married teacher and mother of
one from Edmonton, Alex Hejduk, a 30-year-old single woman from Vancouver who
works in mental health, and Rebecca Harrison, a married Oshawa woman in her
thirties who runs a website dedicated to eradicating child poverty. A video
archive of key stories leading up to Budget Day will also be available.
