VANCOUVER, Feb. 26 /CNW/ - Global Television is pleased to present a new,
original documentary, "REVEALED: Path to War," produced and narrated by
Canada's most-watched national news anchor, Global National's Kevin Newman.
Drawing on the research and reporting from the best-selling book "The
Unexpected War" by Janice Gross Stein and Eugene Lang, "REVEALED: The Path to
War" exposes how Canada found itself on the front lines in Afghanistan.
"REVEALED: Path to War" will air on Global Television on Tuesday,
March 11th, 2008 at the following airtimes:

    - ON, QC & BC - 10 p.m.
    - MB, SK - 9 p.m.
    - AB & Maritimes - 8 p.m.

"REVEALED: Path to War" is the first film of a new twice-yearly,
independently-produced, one-hour documentary strand, "REVEALED," airing on
Global Television, focusing on seeking the truth behind major Canadian issues,
bringing fresh perspective through in-depth investigations into what is really
going on behind-the-scenes.
"This documentary addresses a timely issue as the Canadian government
will be voting on the country's role in Afghanistan in the coming days," said
Kevin Newman, Global National anchor and executive editor. "'REVEALED: Path to
War' revisits Canada's decision to enter the Afghanistan conflict by speaking
directly with the people who made the choices. It was a critical moment in
Canadian history, and new insights are revealed during the hour as our country
debates whether to remain on the same path."
Told from an insider's point-of-view during the critical years after
9/11, every politician with an important role in sending Canadian troops to
the war in Afghanistan is interviewed, including former Prime Ministers Jean
Chretien and Paul Martin.
"This particular documentary is heavily news driven and has huge
relevance to today's government policies, especially with the current debate
on Canada's involvement in Afghanistan," said Steve Wyatt, Senior Vice
President of News and Information at Canwest Broadcasting. "We are proud to
have Canada's most-watched national news anchor involved in this new
documentary project."
Canada's involvement in the war is revealed to be a largely political
path, lacking in adequate understanding of the mission or the country Canadian
soldiers have been sent to reconstruct. The original agreement had Canada take
part in a short-term combat role in Kandahar. It then became a peacekeeping
mission and a reconstruction role thereafter. The film airs while Parliament
is currently considering the longest mission extension yet: another three
years to 2011.
Now, Canada finds itself engaged in a conflict longer than any other in
its history. This one-hour documentary finds out why.
"We are committed to providing viewers with unique and original
programming that focuses on today's important issues and controversies," said
Christine Shipton, Senior Vice President of Drama and Factual Content at
Canwest Broadcasting. "The REVEALED documentaries will bring new perspectives
and in-depth analysis to important subjects that matter most to Canadians.
Global Television is proud to support the new REVEALED documentary strand."
"REVEALED: The Path to War" is produced by award-winning Global National
anchor and executive editor Kevin Newman, executive producer Gordon Henderson
and director Mike Sheerin of 90th Parallel Productions, in association with
Canwest Media Inc.
