BURNABY, BC, Aug. 16 /CNW/ - Glentel Inc. has acquired and installed a
new state-of-the-art satellite hub at its Edmonton, Alberta facility, offering
oil and gas pipeline monitoring and other control services to its many
customers through Canada and the United States. The new hub, which replaces a
legacy system, is now fully operational and Glentel has begun transferring
existing satellite customer data traffic to this hub.
The new hub utilizes the Anik F2 satellite which offers North American
coverage using a new 6.3 meter antenna. This million-dollar investment in new
infrastructure provides Glentel with the ability and expanded capacity to
service its government and enterprise customers with a broader range of
wireless service features, including internet capability, to enhance the
management and transport of data between field and central offices virtually
anywhere in North America. Since 1997, Glentel has provided fixed satellite
services known as VSAT with a SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition)
communications solution that has resulted in quality assurance, labor
reduction, and industry safety compliance, particularly in hard-to-reach field
operations such as cross-country pipelines stretching from northern Canada to
the mid-west United States.
"We are encouraged by the confidence that our customers have placed in
Glentel to manage and communicate their integral data transfer and monitoring
requirements in a secure, safe, efficient, and expeditious manner," said Tom
Skidmore, Glentel's president and chief executive officer. "We look forward to
advancing our customers' communications capabilities to a new level of
sophistication and flexibility."
