Glenfiddich and Balvenie Score Gold for William Grant & Sons

Whisky Maker Takes 13 Golds at International Wine and Spirits Competition

TORONTO, June 12 /CNW/ - The 2007 International Wine and Spirits
Competition (IWSC) vindicated the taste preferences of consumers around the
globe as Glenfiddich, the world's favourite single malt, scooped four gold
medals at the prestigious industry event. Gold was awarded to Glenfiddich's
Special Reserve 12 Year Old, Solera Reserve 15 Year old, 30 Year Old and the
Rare Collection 40 Year Old.
The judges also recognized superior craftsmanship by awarding William
Grant & Sons' The Balvenie Single Malt Scotch Whisky range another five gold
medals delivering a record-breaking win to the independent family-owned
distiller. The Balvenie's golds are for: The Balvenie Roasted Malt 14 Year
Old, The Balvenie PortWood 1933, The Balvenie New Oak 17 Year Old, The
Balvenie PortWood 21 Year Old and The Balvenie Vintage Cask 1972. The Brand
was also awarded 4 silver medals for other products in its range.
Both Glenfiddich and The Balvenie are created at adjacent distilleries in
Dufftown in the Speyside region of the Scottish Highlands. The Balvenie is the
only single malt in Speyside that still grows its own barley, malts on a
traditional malting floor, and retains its own team of craftsmen including
coopers, a coppersmith and maltman.
"We have seen tremendous growth in all these brands," said Julie Bettiol,
Marketing Manager for William Grant & Sons Scotches in Canada. "We knew that
consumers were telling us that they love our single malt scotches. Now panels
of our peers have confirmed what consumers already know." The new results of
the IWSC were announced in London, England, at the International Wine and
Spirits Fair. A panel of international experts blind tasted whiskies from
around the globe in order to determine the winners.
Grant's 15 Year Old, 18 Year Old and 25 Year Old blended Scotch whiskies
were all awarded gold medals as well as the Girvan 1964 Single Grain, bringing
the total of golds for William Grant & Sons to a record setting thirteen
medals across its whisky portfolio.
David Stewart, Malt Master for William Grant & Sons, said, "To surpass
last year's success is unbelievable. It's testament to the fact that when a
product is made by skilled and committed craftsmen, the results speak for
