Gemcom Introduces Automated Underground Design Module For Gemcom Surpac Geology and Mine Planning Software

    New Module Offers Auditability and Repeatability of Designs; Integration
    with Gemcom MineSched Production Scheduling

    VANCOUVER, Oct. 31 /CNW/ - Gemcom Software International Inc. (TSX:GCM),
the largest global supplier of specialised mining productivity solutions,
today announced that it has released a new, automated Underground Design
module for its industry-leading Gemcom Surpac(TM) software. Surpac is used at
more than 5,000 sites, in more than 90 countries to support a broad range of
mining functions, including geology, survey and planning.
    "Our new Underground Design module with its logical, automated design
process gives mining companies the capabilities they need to produce more
effective mine designs more quickly," said Rob Ferguson, strategic product
manager at Gemcom. "The Underground Design module generates designs that can
be audited, which also assists in compliance management."
    "I have been in the mining game for more than twenty-six years doing mine
layouts, mining statistics, strategic planning and capital projects, and my
view is that the Surpac Underground Design module is an excellent tool that
can be applied to assist mine planning and project teams no matter what type
of mining method is used," stated Len Backhouse, mine designer, PTM, Platinum
Group Metals (RSA) (PTY) Ltd.

    Key benefits of the Underground Design module include:

      - Integration with Surpac user interface, which provides powerful,
         flexible geology and planning features developed for ease of use;

      -  Integration with Gemcom MineSched(TM) production scheduling;

      -  Logical, visual design process using a flowchart-based approach;

      - User-defined parameters are stored in a secure database, ensuring
         designs are both auditable and repeatable; and

      - Wide applicability to the diverse needs of different types of
         underground mines.

    Integration is a key capability of Surpac and its Underground Design
module. By employing Surpac, the Underground Design module and MineSched
scheduling software together, mining companies benefit from an integrated,
end-to-end modelling, mine design, scheduling and analysis solution. With
automation built into design and scheduling, mine planners are able to spend
more time analysing and improving end results.
