Co-Founder of Canadian Frozen Food Empire Receives Lifetime Business
TORONTO, Sept. 13 /CNW/ - Wallace McCain, chairman of the board of Maple
Leaf Foods Inc. and co-founder of one of the world's largest frozen food
companies, will receive the coveted Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year(R)
2007 Ontario Lifetime Achievement Award. Mr. McCain will be rewarded for his
outstanding accomplishments at a gala presentation on October 18, 2007.
"Mr. McCain's extraordinary leadership and success throughout his 50
years in the frozen food industry are incredible," said Dan Cornacchia,
director of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year awards program for the
Ontario region. "As a determined entrepreneur and passionate philanthropist,

Mr. McCain co-founded McCain Foods Limited in 1956, which has grown into
one of the largest frozen food companies in the world. He was president and
co-chief executive officer of McCain Foods Limited until 1995, and is
currently chairman of the board of Maple Leaf Foods Inc., and vice chairman
and director of other associated companies within the McCain Foods Group.
Beyond his demanding work responsibilities, Mr. McCain is also a director
of the St. Michael's Hospital Board, co-chair of the National Ballet School
Financial Campaign, and a member of the National Advisory Council for Mount
Allison University. His personal and professional awards and recognitions are
plentiful: Officer of the Order of Canada (1995); Knight of the Golden Pencil
Award (1988); Gary Wright Humanitarian Award from Friends of We Care Inc.
(1992); Honorary Life Member, Potato Association of America (1992); Canadian
Business Hall of Fame (1993); New Brunswick Business Hall of Fame (1997);
B'nai Brith Award of Merit (1999); Honorary Life Member, Association of
Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (2003); Order of New
Brunswick (2003); Canadian International Executive of the Year (2003); and
Canadian Manufacturing Hall of Fame (2006).
A New Brunswick native, Mr. McCain graduated with a B.A. from Mount
Allison University in 1951. Since then, he has received honourary degrees from
Mount Allison University, University of King's College, University of New
Brunswick, Dalhousie University, Trent University and University of Toronto.
