French for the Future Shares Graham Fraser's View that Canadian Post-Secondary Institutions Need to Maintain Incentives for Students to Learn Both Official Languages.

TORONTO, June 5 /CNW/ - French for the Future is encouraged to see that
the Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages' (OCOL) 2007-2008 Annual
Report contains a plan to study second-language learning opportunities in
Canadian universities.
"Making a much stronger linkage among bilingual students - especially
when they begin secondary school - to the future opportunities that they can
access in Canada's post-secondary institutions is an essential effort," said
French for the Future President Helen Coltrinari, adding: "This type of
information is of particular relevance to French Immersion students because it
will shine a much brighter light on the pathway toward accessing future
bilingual labour market opportunities both in the public and private sectors."
Since its formation, French for the Future has hammered away at the need
for more post-secondary FSL learning opportunities and applauds several
universities for their leadership in developing unique bilingual program
models. The organization is hopeful that other universities will soon follow

French for the Future was created after the Quebec referendum in 1995 in
order to promote linguistic duality in Canada. A major goal of French for the
Future is to highlight the positive social and career benefits and to forge
linguistic and cultural links among secondary school students who are enrolled
in French first and second language courses.
