Former White House Economic Policy Director Todd Buchholz Headlines CGA-BC's Annual Conference in Victoria

VICTORIA, Sept. 20, 2011 /CNW/ - The Certified General Accountants Association of British Columbia (CGA-BC) is hosting its 2011 conference at the Victoria Conference Centre and the Fairmont Empress Hotel from September 21 to 25, 2011.

CGA-BC's annual five-day member summit features the Association's annual general meeting, more than 20 professional development seminars, the longest-running accounting trade show in the Northwest, and the Association's Chair's Banquet and Awards Gala. The 2011 event will host more than 800 participants, making it the largest conference in the Association's history.

The Conference's first keynote presentation on Wednesday, September 21 will feature Todd Buchholz, whose presentation it titled, 'Is the Economy Headed Higher—Or Off a Cliff?' Buchholz is a former director of economic policy at the White House, a managing director of the $15-billion Tiger hedge fund and an award winning economics professor at Harvard University. His keynote presentation will draw on research from his latest book, 'New Ideas from Dead CEOs: Lasting Lessons from the Corner Office,' to explain what is happening in the global economy and provide a vision for what might happen next.

The Conference's second keynote presentation will feature a dynamic 90-minute public speaking seminar with Chris Molineux, a former stand-up comedian who has worked with Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres and Jim Carrey, and is one of Canada's leading communication skills coaches. The other professional development events will cover subjects such leadership, organizational behaviour, risk management, ethics, wealth management and technology. The program will also include a tax seminar with Ed Kroft, QC, LLB, LLM, CGA (Hon.), one of Canada's foremost experts in the area of tax law.

As the province's largest professional accounting association, CGA-BC represents nearly 15,000 CGAs and students. Members work in industry, commerce, government and in public practice. The Association promotes the excellence of its members and advances the accounting profession through education, certification and the protection of the public interest.

CGA-BC leads the profession in the integration of ethics into its academic program, and all new graduates of the CGA program are required to complete a rules and standards course to complement an ongoing ethics requirement for members.

The Association also offers a wide range of employment services and programs to its members, students and the business community. These services include, a job postings website for finance and accounting professionals, and the Partners in Employment Program (PEP), which recognizes organizations that provide an effective working and training environment for CGAs and CGA students.
