Former NDP Leader Ed Broadbent joins Mike Shields to rally support

    OSHAWA, ON, Oct. 2 /CNW/ - Ed Broadbent, former leader of the NDP and
Oshawa MP, will be joining the riding's New Democrat candidate Mike Shields
for a rally at the campaign office on Friday.

    Ed Broadbent Rally for Mike Shields:
    Friday, October 3, 2008 at 12 noon
    312 Bloor Street West, Oshawa

    Supporters will gather to hear speeches by both Broadbent and Shields as
the pair presents their vision for a stronger Oshawa and a more just country.
    "I can think of no place I'd rather be than campaigning with Mike the day
after the national debate," said Broadbent. "Oshawa needs Mike Shields, he
knows what needs to be done and people in Ottawa will listen to him."
    Broadbent will join Shields on the campaign trail after the rally.
Shields, a community and union activist, is running on a platform of
community-based politics and addressing the jobs drain in Oshawa. He has
received the endorsement of former Oshawa Mayor Nancy Diamond, Campaign
Director for the United Way of Oshawa, Whitby, Clarington and Brock & Scugog
Robert Howard and several other community leaders.
    The pair will be available for interviews immediately following the rally
and through out the day.
