Neil McCrank will counsel on oil sands, large energy deals
CALGARY, June 3 /CNW/ - Neil McCrank, Q.C., former chair of the Alberta
Energy and Utilities Board, has joined the Calgary office of Borden Ladner
Gervais LLP as counsel, bringing a wealth of insight into the province's
regulatory regime as it relates to large oil sands and electricity projects.

In addition to being a lawyer, Mr. McCrank is also an engineer and member
of the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of

Mr. McCrank chaired the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board from 1998
until his retirement in March, 2007. Before his time on the board, he was
deputy justice minister in the Alberta government. Soon after leaving the EUB,
he was appointed Chairman of a Task Force to review Alberta's Agencies, Boards
and Commissions. He was also appointed, in November 2007, as a member of Prime
Minister Stephen Harper's Advisory Council on National Security.
In 2007, he accepted an appointment by the Federal Minister of Indian
Affairs and Northern Development as the Minister's Special Representative to
review potential improvements to the Northern regulatory system.
Mr. McCrank currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Canadian Association
for the World Petroleum Congress, Chairman of the Canadian Energy Research
Institute, and is a member of the Institute for Sustainable Energy,
Environment and Economy Leadership Board at the University of Calgary. In
December 2007, he became a member of the Board of Directors of AltaGas Income
