For its second year of activities - The Ultramar Foundation distributes $363,000 to children's charities

MONTREAL, Jan. 31 /CNW Telbec/ - Mr. Jean Bernier, President of Ultramar
Ltd., is pleased to announce that the Ultramar Foundation has distributed
$363,000 to some 60 children's charitable organizations in communities where
the Company operates.
"We created the Ultramar Foundation for the purposes of helping
charitable organizations, as well as other organizations that are dedicated to
the well being of individuals and the development of the community," stated
Mr. Bernier. "Again in 2006, we organized our golf tournament to raise funds
for the benefit of children's charities. This was the second edition of the
tournament which is inspired by Valero, our parent company, and its annual
golf tournament, the Valero Texas Open, whose proceeds go to children's
charities." The Ultramar Tournament, to which partners and suppliers were
invited, took place on August 21, 2006 at the Saint-Raphael Golf Club on Ile
Bizard, near Montreal, and raised $300,000. An additional $63,000 was
collected during Valero's Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic,
held last September in Texas.
Dedicated to improving the lives of children, the community organizations
(the list of which is attached) who have received the donations offer a wide
range of services, from safe shelters for abused children, the distribution of
breakfasts, warm meals and school supplies to disadvantaged children, support
for prenatal health care, to the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals
providing care for sick or handicapped children.
"Thanks to our employees' involvement and generous support from our
suppliers and business partners, we are able to come to the assistance of
hundreds of disadvantaged children in Eastern Canada, explained Mr. Jean
Bernier. We are very proud to support so many worthy causes. In addition,
since the beneficiaries were chosen by our employees, these donations have a
very special significance."
