Fondation Desjardins Awards Up To $100,000 In University Scholarships

    MONTREAL, Oct. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - As part of Cooperation Week events,
Fondation Desjardins has awarded university scholarships worth a total of
nearly $100,000. The scholarships were handed out at a ceremony attended by
prominent members of the educational and cooperative communities.
    A $25,000 research grant was awarded to Alexandre Lambert in the
"Environment and Society" category. Fondation Desjardins is proud to
contribute to furthering Mr. Lambert's project, which focuses on the field of
transport network planning and land use management. Mr. Lambert is conducting
his research jointly with Université de Montréal and Université Paris I -
Panthéon Sorbonne.
    Five scholarships of $7,000 each were awarded to PhD students, including
Marie-Claude Allard, studying administration at UQAM, who was named winner of
the "Cooperation" category. Her research is concentrated on the governance of
collaboration networks formed by collective enterprises. The other recipients
were: Mélanie Dufour-Poirier, studying administration at HEC Montréal;
Catherine Laporte, a computer engineering student and Hong Long, a neurology
student, both at McGill University; and Catherine Roux, studying educational
psychology at UQAM.
    In addition, three Master's scholarships of $5,000 each were awarded to
Alix Lefebvre, studying history at Université de Montréal; Sylvie Juneau,
studying chemistry at UQAM; and Anne Loranger-King, studying international
management at HEC Montréal. Javier Brailovsky, who is working towards a
Master's degree in economics at UQAM, received the Desjardins Group staff
bursary of $3,500.
    At the Bachelor's level, twelve students were awarded scholarships of
between $1,000 and $2,500 each.
    Additionally, during October, 120 Desjardins caisses across Québec will
be awarding Fondation Desjardins university scholarships worth nearly $300,000
in all.
