QUEBEC CITY, Aug. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Residents and visitors of Quebec City
are invited to take a tour of a Kingston-Class Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel
(MCDV) when Her Majesty's Canadian Ships (HMCS) Glace Bay, Goose Bay,
Kingston, Moncton and Shawinigan conduct a port visit to Quebec City, from
August 17 to 20, 2007. The ships will berth in Port de Québec at Jetty 22 at
7:00 a.m august 17, 2007.
Tours will be available on August 18th and 19th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Anyone wishing to tour the ship will be required to present valid photo
identification. Personal bags may not be permitted onboard.
MCDVs are crewed by 41 Naval Reservists from across Canada, as well as
two regular force sailors. Each vessel is 55 meters long, 11 meters wide and
equipped with two 50-calibre machine guns. The vessels are multi-role ships
that can be fitted with inter-changeable modules that can be used in a wide
variety of missions including general naval operations and exercises, as well
as specialty work such as seabed mapping. The vessels also support the Halifax
Joint Rescue Coordination Centre when required as well as providing support to
law-enforcement agencies ranging from the RCMP, the Department of Fisheries
and Oceans and the Canada Border Services Agency.
In the five coastal defence vessels visit context, the Canadian Forces
recruiting center of Quebec invites you to witness the enrolment ceremony of
forty of its new members. The ceremony will take place Saturday august 18th at
9:45 a.m. on Jetty 22 of the Port of Quebec. If bad weather, the ceremony will
be held at the Naval Reserve unit HMCS Montclam, 170 Dalhousie near the Louise
