CALGARY, May 19 /CNW/ - Once again, the generosity of FirstEnergy
Capital Corp.'s retail and institutional investor clients, staff and
vendors was on full display on Thursday May 19, 2011. With all trading
commissions earned for the day being donated to the Red Cross in order
to assist those who lost their homes in the Slave Lake, Alberta fire,
over $400,000 was raised to meet this urgent need.
"We are always amazed at the swift response of our clients and the
energy of our staff when mother nature deals a severe blow. This is one
of the most successful charitable events in FirstEnergy's history, and
we cannot thank the generosity of our clients and staff enough for
their support and for so quickly rallying to the cause," commented Jim
Davidson, CEO and Chairman with FirstEnergy.
"This is the fourth trading day we have undertaken and it was every bit
as successful in generating aid as the efforts we previously made on
behalf of Manitoba flood victims, Central and Eastern Canadian victims
of the ice storm, and drought-stricken Prairie Farmers."
Commented FirstEnergy Managing Director Trent Boehm, "I can't believe
the support that we have had for this event. On Monday it was clear
that something had to be done, and by Thursday our entire staff and
client network were enthusiastically engaged in doing everything they
could to raise these significant funds. It is a wonderful feeling to be
part of this team."
Funds will be immediately placed in the hands of the Red Cross to
furnish those rendered homeless by this tragedy. The resolve of Slave
Lake residents, many of whom work in the oil and gas industry for the
companies that FirstEnergy's investment banking business finances, to
shake off this horrific event and rebuild their lifestyles was all the
impetus that the FirstEnergy team required. The company hopes that the
speedy delivery of these funds will make a small contribution to easing
the pain caused by the wildfire.
